Dolvin's ESOL program has one and a half teachers this year, Katie Collins and myself, Bev Bodelson. We also have a half time assistant,Sabrina Adrien . We have students from so many countries that the year is very exciting.
The program is designed to help limited English proficient students to develop proficiency in the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing or understanding the English language so that they may succeed in the regular classrooms as quickly as possible. The materials we use are Avenues and we have WIDA standards we practice, plus the new Core standards used in the regular classroom.
Our students are on many levels: from students who do not know any English to those who are able to do some reading and writing. They are screened upon entering Dolvin to see if they test in to the program.
